Hello there -
If you've clicked your way here, you're probably looking to get a better sense of who I am and where I've come from. Please feel free to ask me in person for more details, but here's a sketch:
I am a New England native, born and raised in Connecticut. After graduating
from high school, I moved to Lewiston, Maine to attend Bates College. My years at Bates were wonderful ones, where I developed a love for the outdoors and for science, both pursuits that I continue today. After graduating from Bates with a B.S. in Biochemistry I matriculated into the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) for graduate work in Biochemistry.
My master's research at MCW focused on the influence of proteins on gene regulation, and the importance of gene regulation to cancer biology. During my master's work I was privileged to attend and present research at the American Association for Cancer Research symposium Histopathobiology of Neoplasia. This experience allowed me to gain a deeper understanding and respect for the cellular processes that result in cancerous changes when uncontrolled. My subsequent doctoral work focused on characterizing the enzymatic behavior of proteins involved in energy metabolism. Understanding biochemical pathways and their interconnection in such depth has given me a very unique perspective on the intricate regulation of the human body, a perspective that I value as I approach patients' questions about their health concerns. After completion of my master's degree (1999) and Ph.D. in Biochemistry (2002) I moved back home to New England for a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School's Department of Pathology, and a year later, I shifted my career path towards the biotechnology industry and began work for a Boston-area biotechnology company.
At some point in life, every person is faced with a choice between two paths. My experience in the biotechnology industry presented me with this choice, by way of challenging me to examine my choices and the ethics that were their underpinning. In Philosophy: Who needs it Ayn Rand proposes this: "Define your philosophy, or you will have it defined for you." The situations with which I found myself challenged at this time enabled me to reach the conclusion that my chosen career path was at odds with my ethics and philosophy. After much soul-searching, I left my position at this company and my career in biotechnology.
It was at this time in my life that chiropractic care found me. I came to be under the care of one of New England's best chiropractors, Dr. Stephen Franson of Franson Family Chiropractic in Beverly, MA. While under Dr. Stephen's care, my health (which was not so good at the time) began to turn down a different path. I had been experiencing a number of body signals including severe back and neck pain, severe allergies, asthma, hypothyroidism, and depression, and I was constantly fighting some bug or another. After I had been under regular chiropractic care for a few months, I found that all of these body signals were gone or greatly decreased, which greatly increased my enjoyment of my life! Dr. Stephen helped my body to grow healthier and stronger, and helped my mind to start a new journey, in a very different direction than the one I had previously held - to become a chiropractor and to share with others what I had discovered, that chiropractic care can help a body heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. For a more detailed explanation of the path that led me to this statement, click here.
I graduated from Life University in Marietta, Georgia in March of 2009 as the salutatorian of my graduating class, Summa Cum Laude. After an amazing year apprenticing with one of the best chiropractors in the Atlanta area, Dr. Eric Richards of HealthSprout Chiropractic and Wellness (click here), I moved back to New England to pursue my own dream of helping people to live healthier and fuller lives, naturally. With the opening of Path of Life Chiropractic Health Center in August 2010 the door to realizing that dream is open.
I look forward to serving you as your chiropractor and health management consultant, and to helping you set and achieve your own health goals. I cannot think of a profession that I would enjoy more.
Sincerely,
